What an awesome time we all had !! From the minute girls and leaders climbed on board those buses until they climbed off again at the end of the weekend. Sixty girls, twelve leaders and three great Mums ! We had Pippins who came for the day and Rangers who helped plan activities. Our aim was to travel around the world. We began on Friday night learning about the opportunities available through Guides New Zealand to attend international events - for girls and for leaders - and afterwards made some craft items for international delegates to take with them as "swaps" or thank you gifts. On Saturday we began our journey around the world after our camp flag was unfurled from our flagpole. We traveled to France, Australia, Mexico, Japan, Canada, South Africa, India, USA, Madagascar and Space in our patrols. We each had our own passport and we had to complete a compulsory activity at each country plus decide on another activity to complete as a patrol. We did activities like:
Petanque in France
Making soap in Madagascar
Going on a Grizzly Bear hunt in Canada
Painting mehendi designs on our hands in India
Helping to construct a pinata in Mexico
Building a spaceship with marshmallows and toothpicks and transporting it safely in Space
Making a Peg doll in Japan
Learning part of a dance in USA - and performing it later
Learning a song in South Africa to share at campfire
Doing dot paintings on rocks in Australia
We had a great campfire on Saturday night and on Sunday after a Guides Own planned and run by the Rangers (with a few helpers) we did activities in our sections. The Guides and Rangers went on a hill climb and the Brownies had all sorts of fun with science as they worked in a round robin on their Science Whizz badges. After lunch and some more games everything was tidied up and we were ready to go home on the buses again.
Thank you
